FAQs:

Q:Isn't rojo the Spanish word for red?
A: Si.

Q: Are you Spanish?
A: My grandparents came from Italy.

Q: So, do you have red hair?
A: Not intentionally, but that's another story, one I've actually written it.

Here's the deal about the name:

My lifelong nickname is Ro. My last name for two decades was Johnston. In the tradition of Ho Jo and Flo Jo, people started calling me Ro Jo and I responded, so it stuck.

I also answer to Ro, Rosanne, Roxanne, Rosemary, Rosemarie, and Hey You because you never know when or where you might meet an interesting person.

What a long strange trip it's been

My first ambition was to be a cash register girl. Well, I wanted to be a dancer, but that's another story.

My first job was working summers as a seamstress in an industrial laundry. This was in Niagara Falls, NY, so it was quite literally a sweat shop. The highlight of that job was when I got to sew the names on the Buffalo Bills' practice jerseys, including a rookie named O.J. Simpson.

I went to college first in Buffalo and then in New York City, where I got a Fashionista degree. I worked in retail for a few years, which fulfilled my childhood dream of running a cash register. I narrowly escaped a life in beads and bags.

My first computer job was at UC Irvine medical center in the OC. It was a cushy government job and I might be there still, but I moved to Denver. Contemplating my next career move, I decided it would be fun to fix computers. I did that until I got tired of flying around the Rocky Mountain West lugging an oscilloscope and a tool box.

So, I went back to college to finish the BS degree I had abandoned in favor of an expedient Associates. The sheepskin translated into a job in the aerospace industry, which picked up the tab for my Master's.

By the 90's, I was in Northern California, working on a defense contract. A few of my coworkers and I decided this new Internet thing sounded very cool and that we should make one for our program. What started out as a means to display org charts quickly grew into an indispensable factor in how we did business every day.

My first personal dabbling on the Internet was a vegetarian recipe website. No domain name, just a /~username freebie space. I had plans for a cookbook called "Goin' Veggie," but then I returned to omnivorism and that was the end of that.

I truly enjoy building web pages. It brings together my talents and skills in a unique way. I can bliss out doing this stuff and that's a good thing for you and me both!
