 Process

Building your website is a three step process:

  1. Design - establish the visual concept and structure
  2. Develop - construct pages, add content
  3. Implement -  upload site and test

In the design phase, we will define the look and feel you want for your site — the overall theme, color scheme, page layout, site structure, and navigation system. Based on that information, I will custom design 2 or 3 sample main pages and one subordinate page. From these examples, we will refine the various elements into the final design.

During the development phase, I will construct each page in the site, adding your content — text, photos, graphic images, product data, etc.

In the final step, the entire site is uploaded for your online review. I will test all elements for function and usability.

As with any project, the better the plan, the better the result. I will listen to you, give you feedback, and put the proposal in writing to make sure we're headed for the same result.

Process FAQ's:

Q: How much does it cost?

A: Custom design does not lend itself to a price list. When I give you an estimate, it will be based on the number of hours I think the work will take for me to complete, broken down by phase. For a ballpark figure, a site of a few pages could come in around $200, but it might be higher depending on the features needed and the amount of graphic and other content work you need me to do.

Q: I already have a website that I don't like. Can you fix it?

A: Yes. I do redesigns as well as from-scratch work.

Q: Does your fee include hosting and domain name registration?

A: No. If I secure a domain name and/or hosting service for you, I bill that separately, based on my actual costs plus my time for the transaction and setup. The fee for designing and developing a site is based on the number of hours the work takes.

Q: I have a hosting company already. Is that okay?

A: Maybe. Every hosting company has a unique set of products and tools. It isn't practical for me to learn a new interface for each client. I will need access to your account (user/password) so I can take a look at the administrative interface.

Q: What do I need to do to get started?

A: Send me an email and tell me about the site you have in mind, or the address to the one you already have and why it isn't working for you.
